Final Fantasy XIV Mobile hardware requirements

2025-08-07

At the time of writing this article, FFXIV Mobile is available in China with a global release to be announced. With the first players in the game, we do have some information on hardware requirements for the game. Depending on the source, they do differ a bit (translated from Chinese websites).

For Android we have:

Mali iGPU usually has multiple variants for each name - how big the iGPU is. The specs do not state which MP variant it is, so it's better to use Adreno iGPUs as reference points.

For iOS and iPadOS we have:

The game will also require around 20GB of storage to be available.

Apple devices

For Apple, it looks like that A13 Bionic or A14 Bionic would be the minimum to play the game without issues. A13 is over 6 years old right now, so all modern iPhones and iPads should manage it.

From tablets, the latest 11th-gen iPad with A16 should be the cheapest option while still good. The previous 10th gen with A14 could be a bit too weak. iPad Air/Mini with A17 Pro or M-series chips would be even stronger and should handle the game easily.

Android devices

With Android, we have a lot of hardware vendors to look at. First, you will probably need a device with Google Play Store - unsure if the game will be added to Huawei store and alike. Then you have to check the chip itself. Cheaper devices can even have a decent CPU but a cut-down GPU, making them really bad at gaming.

Adreno graphics is for Snapdragon chips, while Mali is the stock iGPU found in other ARM chips. There are exceptions like some Samsung Exynos chips with Xclipse iGPU, which is based on AMD RDNA graphics architecture. On Reddit, there was a report from a user showcasing the game refusing to launch and indicating an unsupported GPU.

To quickly check the performance of the chip in your mobile device, check notebookcheck.net database and comparison options to compare iGPU and CPU versus given minimal/recommended hardware.

We don't know how important CPU performance will be, but looking at the LagoFast website specs, it looks like they recommend recent, more powerful chips overall. Entry-level chips with good graphics may still have problems. The same can happen with storage if it's slow.

From the looks of things, phones at around ~300 EUR start to exceed the minimal requirements for the game. Below that, it's asking for trouble.

Here is a quick rundown of current popular mobile chips present in phones and tablets, starting from the low-end:

For upper-range we have:

And for flagship phones at 700 EUR and more we have:

Mobile vs PC

Compared to laptop integrated graphics like the older AMD Radeon 680M, the recommended Adreno 650 reaches around 40% of what the Radeon GPU achieves in synthetic benchmarks. Radeon 680M or 780M on a 1080p standard laptop preset can run the desktop game at around 40 FPS (benchmark scenes). Mobile version uses lower fidelity and lower resolution graphics and uses its own engine to run nearly the same content on phones and tablets at 1/4 of the GPU compute power.
